Born in the Republic of Panama but raised In the United States, Nisla was part of a military family. At the early age of 13 Nisla’s talent was recognized. Nisla studied anatomy and life drawing under Professor Manuel DeLeon in southern California and subsequently moved to Oahu. There Nisla raised three children and also studied under Roy Tabora
In a male dominated market place Nisla fought for credibility as a female artist. Talent plus perseverance paid off. Nisla's work can now be found in galleries throughout the Hawaiian islands, mainland and Japan. Nisla's travels have additionally taken her to the eastern seaboard of the United States and also to Mexico. Along the way, Nisla mastered new techniques which she has added to her 'toolbox'.
"I still paint using my classic techniques but I enjoy switching it up and putting a more contemporary slant on things. Whether it's the human figure or seascapes, I try to bring my personal eye and my spirit into everything I produce. My greatest hope is that it touches something in someone else in a way that connects us as human beings. Proof that we are not alone." - Nisla
