“Crimson Coast" ~ Original Collaboration
Wood & Painted Vessel | Koa, Mango, Bloodwood, Wenge and Maple with Oil Paint | 14.75" Height x 9.25" diameter
"Crimson Coast" is a "segmented vessel". The piece is created on the wood lathe by turning a stack of wooden rings. Each ring is composed of 16 wood segments regardless of the diameter of the ring. The shape of this vessel is inspired by ancient Grecian urns. The vessel is created using the following exotic wood species; Hawaiian Koa, mango, Bloodwood, Wenge, and Maple,
Adding character to the vessel are additional fine details. There is an alternating wood type ring near the base of Wenge and Mango. The narrow bands above and below the painting are actual delicate segmented rings, a detail not found in other fine art pieces. the neck of the vessel incorporates a "checkerboard" ring of bloodwood and maple with 400 individual pieces. The rim of the vessel is Wenge. Additionally, on the inside bottom of the vessel there is an inlay compass star of Hawaiian Koa, Ebony and Holly.
